> Focus on Cap & Trade Debate Turns to Senate

As Congress prepares to enter the August recess, now is the time to contact Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner and ask for their support on cap and trade. Tell them that we have an historic opportunity to cap global warming pollution and put people back to work unleashing America's green energy economy.

The Washington, DC telephone numbers are:

Senator Jim Webb: 202-224-4024
Senator Mark Warner: 202-224-2023

Congressmen Boucher, Connolly, Moran, Perriello and Scott, who voted in favor of the American Clean Energy and Security Act in June, are hearing heavily from the opposition.

Please take the time to call to thank these Virginia Members of Congress who supported this landmark bill:

Rep. Robert Scott (D-3): 202-225-8351
Rep. Thomas Perriello (D-5): (202) 225-4711
Rep. Jim Moran (D-8): 202-225-4376
Rep. Rick Boucher (D-9): 202-225-3861
Rep. Gerald Connolly (D-11): 202-225-1492

> Virginia Continues Push for Weatherization of Homes

With $94 million in weatherization funding allocated for the Commonwealth of Virginia from the Recovery Act, Governor Tim Kaine is hopeful that the program will help reduce energy consumption, put people to work and save homeowners money in the Commonwealth.

According to the news release, the funds will allow for approximately 8,600 homes to be weatherized, and each home will likely experience as a result a 32 percent decrease in energy usage.

Gov. Kaine and his cabinet witnessed the weatherization of a King George County resident's home as part of a Community Cabinet Day on July 29th.

If a cap and trade program is passed, the demand for weatherization of homes will increase. The increase in demand will then create more jobs- labor on the homes directly, workers needed to create the materials for weatherization, for example.

If you are interested in receiving weatherization assistance, please visit the Department of Housing and Community Development's website at www.dhcd.virginia.gov to locate the weatherization provider in your area.
